Leaders for the Church 2003-2007

"The Leaders for the Church campaign offers a unique opportunity to strengthen an institution that is changing as the world is changing, meeting the challenges of today while preparing for those of tomorrow."

Gifts made to the Seminary for all purposed in the Leaders for the Church campaign totaled $19.2 million.  With a goal of $15 million, Leaders for the Church was the most successful campaign in the Seminary's history.

  • $5.1 million for the capital purposes, including $4.2 for the Tutu Center
  • $7.1 million for the endowment
  • $7.0 million for the annual fund and program initiatives

For a more detailed look at this campaign, see our Leaders for the Church video.

Highlights of the campaign included four $1,000,000 gifts and 100% participation among students in the classes of 2006, 2007, and 2008.

We have made a promise to Desmond Tutu to create in his name a place where the skills to change the world are taught, learned, and proclaimed.  Our students—lay and ordained, those seeking ordination and those seeking personal or professional enrichment—will carry with them the Archbishop’s call to create a world where “there may be a little more gentleness…a little more caring…a little more laughter…a little more compassion.”

Planning is already underway for the next campaign, which will focus on endowing faculty chairs and scholarships as well providing fund for the ongoing renewal of Chelsea Square as a place of learning and spiritual growth.
