On-Campus Housing

HOUSING FLOOR PLANS:

Below you will find links to the floor plans for our living spaces:

Important: The square footage of each room on the floor plans is given; this number is accurate. A scale is also provided on each page to facilitate an estimate of room dimensions; however, this scale is not exact, and should be used as an approximation only. Please note that some floor plans may not be available in the list below.  For more information on these floor plans contact the Housing Office. For the GTS Housing Policy see GTS Housing Policy June 2008.

MOVING IN:

How to Move In

On arrival at GTS, go to the Main Gate (441 West 21st Street). Introduce yourself to the Front Desk Attendant. Advise him/her that you are moving in. You will be given a key package containing your room key, an "M" key (which opens all main doors on campus) and a "G" key (for all main entrances to the seminary).

To make moving-in to the Close easier, use the side gates. For Dodge, Dehon, or Kohne, use the Chapel Gate on West 20th Street. For Edson, White, or Lorillard, use Seabury Gate on West 21st Street. For security reasons, gates must not be left unattended. This also applies to the front door of 422. Please designate someone to monitor gates and your belongings as you make trips from the gates to your building.

Keys: If additional keys are required, a $6.50 deposit (per key) must be paid. Keys may not be duplicated under any circumstance. Requests for additional keys must be requested from the Front desk. Keys will be given ONLY to adult members of the household.

If you require replacement keys, the fee is $6.50 (per key). When you return the keys, your account will be credited accordingly. Please return replacement keys in an envelope addressed to the Front Desk with a note explaining you are returning replacement keys. This will ensure amounts are credited to your account promptly and accurately.

Phones: For information on phone installation, please call the housing office at 212-243-5150, extension 208.

Air Conditioners: During the summer months, air-conditioning units with 3,000 to 5,000 BTU's can easily keep your single dorm room cool. For larger spaces, a unit with 8,000 to 10,000 will be sufficient. For safety reasons, students are NOT allowed to install A/C units. GTS maintenance personnel will install your air-conditioning unit(s) between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. by appointment. Cost is $50.00 per unit. Air-conditioning units can be purchased through the Maintenance Department at wholesale prices. Please contact maintenance at ext: 219 or 498.

Electrical Appliances: It is recommended that you use surge protectors and/or a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) for use with personal computers and printers. In any of the buildings on the Close, no heat-producing electrical appliances can be used including: toasters, toaster ovens, hotpots, hotplates, microwaves, or any similar devices. They may overload electrical circuits and potentially cause a fire.

Fire Safety & Storage: Please keep hallways, stairs, landings and entrances clear. Storage is not available, so please be cautious when packing. When unpacking, be sure to collapse all empty boxes and place for recycling at the Seabury gate. Normal garbage recycling is located in the basement of all buildings.

Parking: The Seminary does not recommend you bring your car as parking spaces on the street are difficult to find, and garage parking expensive. Transportation in New York City is inexpensive, particularly the subway and bus systems.

Work Orders: If you need repairs, obtain and complete a Maintenance Work Order Form at the Front Desk. Leave form at the Front Desk.

Lockouts: If you are locked out of your housing unit, go to the Front Desk.

• Between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. you will be loaned a key (which must be returned immediately.)
• Between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. you will be charged a $20.00 lockout fee, if the keys are not returned to the front desk by 8:30 a.m.

Banking: The seminary participates in the IBM Metro Credit Union which provides free check and saving accounts.

MAIL SERVICES:

1. Your new address: The GTS address is: 175 Ninth Avenue, New York, 10011-4977. This address is used by entire campus including residents of 422. It is extremely important to use your assigned mail box number on all correspondence.

2. Your old address: Fill out forwarding information at your home post office so mail can follow you.

3. The Mail Room: The mail room is located in the West Building on the first floor. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. You may call to make arrangements to collect packages or other items after the opening hours. We also have Saturday hours from 1:00-5:00 pm. The mailroom is closed on all holidays observed by the USPS, and other seminary holidays.

4. Routine for United States Postal Service (USPS) Incoming mail arrival times vary. Outgoing mail is given to the US postal carrier at that time. All outgoing mail can be put in the outgoing mail slot by the mail room door. Incoming mail is then distributed to mail boxes. At the end of the day, all remaining outgoing mail less than 1 lb. will be taken to the local corner mail box.

5. Services:

- Sell postage stamps and metered mail. Payments are accepted by check only, made payable to GTS.

- Send out packages for all classes of domestic and foreign mail except Overnight Express. We receive and distribute all campus mail and US mail. Customer service questions will be addressed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. All other USPS needs may be received by neighborhood US post offices, i.e., certified mail, etc.

- It has been our experience that the letter carrier will not take heavy packages. Heavy packages, must be taken directly to the post office or call for a pick-up at a cost to you.

6. Campus Mail: Mail within the GTS community can be dropped in the campus mail slot in the mail room. An envelope is not necessary; however the name of the recipient must be clearly written.

7. Special Delivery: You will be notified of all special delivery packages/items we receive. Packages/items not collected by 3 pm (Monday through Friday are sent to the mailroom. Items too large for your mailbox are stored in a locker; a parcel notice will be placed in your mailbox. The notice will have the locker number and the key; lockers are located on the wall across from the mailboxes. If your package is too large for a locker, you will receive a notice indicating where your package is stored. Please return the key and lock to the campus mail slot after retrieving your parcel.

8. Mail box etiquette:

- Please empty your mail box regularly. Overstuffed mail boxes cause difficulty for the sorters and slow down the delivery process.

- If you are planning to be away for several days, inform the mail room so that your mail can be set aside until your return.

- If you are planning to be away for several weeks, the mail room can forward your first class mail. Mailing labels with the address must be provided as well as the start and end dates for forwarding. If you have questions, please contact the mailroom coordinator, or the Director of Campus services.

9. Copiers and Copy Codes: Copiers for your use are located on the first floor of the West Building, as well as the Library. To obtain a copy code and training on the copies please check with the mailroom coordinator who will schedule training during the first three weeks of the Michaelmas Term.
