Alumni/ae ~ Distinguished Alumna/us Award
Distinguished Alumna/us Award
Please note that nominations have closed for the 2008 Distinguished Alumni/ae Award. The Alumni Executive Committee will present the award at the 2008 Alumni gathering on October 15th - 16, 2008.
Call for Nominations from the Alumni/ae Executive Committee:
In January 2008, the Alumni/ae Executive Committee convened in the new “Fosbroke Room” in the West Building. In this new setting and in light of the extraordinary transformation GTS is undergoing, we discussed the meaning of the Distinguished Alumna/us Award. What does it mean to be an outstanding graduate of The General Theological Seminary?
Past recipients have included exemplars of a broad range of ministry. In only four years, we have had the privilege of holding up both extraordinarily original, path breaking ministries and extraordinarily faithful, though quiet ministries. The past recipients of the GTS Distinguished Alumna/us Award are:
- 2004 The Revs. Richard Fabian ’70 and Donald Schell ’71
Co-founders and co-rectors, St. Gregory of Nyssa, San Francisco - 2005 The Rev. Bertram Bennett ’75
Priest-in-Charge, St. David’s, Bronx, NY and Chair, South Bronx Churches - 2006 Dr. Henry Carse, MA ’94
Director, Kids-4-Peace, St. George’s College, Jerusalem - 2007 The Rev. Canon Elizabeth Geitz ’93
Canon for Ministry, Diocese of New Jersey and author of several volumes, including Fireweed Evangelism - The Rev. J. Fletcher Lowe ’59
Executive Director, Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy
Our dilemma, a happy one, has evolved into one of weighing the relative virtues of a life lived in quiet obedience to the Gospel against a transformative ministry of note. There is no way to choose either correctly or incorrectly, but it is a wonderful opportunity to hear stories of GTS peers who have served well and inspired the admiration of colleagues.
General formed us and educated us as faith leaders. How is that leadership manifested beyond the Close? I hope that you will join this conversation by nominating a minster of the church, lay or ordained, who has distinguished us and our Seminary with her or his work. Please take an opportunity to share with us. Click here to to review the procedure for nominating a candidate for this award. And thank you for your role in serving Christ’s Church.
Sincerely,
The Rev. Ellen L. Tillotson ’83
President, Associate Alumni/ae
Rector, Trinity Church, Torrington, Conn.
