The Spiritualities of Vestries & Congregational Leaders with the Rev. Dr. David Keller, Saturday, March 1, 2008. Perfect for new or experienced vestry or parish leaders as well as for clergy. Through class presentation by the instructor, discussion, and small group discernment this seminar will explore the Biblical and theological foundations that integrate prayer and work. We will focus on a three-fold pattern in the life of Jesus that included listening, discernment, and compassionate response. Students will examine Jesus’ understanding of power as well as wisdom about leadership and administration present in the life, challenges, and conflicts of the early Christian faith communities. Emphasis will be placed on practical ways in which parish vestry members can be attentive to God’s voice in the Gospel, itself, in themselves, in their colleagues, in the parish, and in the world. To Enroll The Rev. Dr. David Keller, is an adjunct professor at GTS. He is co-founder, with Fr. Thomas Keating, and Coordinator of the Contemplative Ministry Project. He is also the author of "Oasis of Wisdom: The Worlds of the Desert Fathers and Mothers," published by the Liturgical Press. Spiritual Scrapbooking with Sharon Sheridan, Saturday, March 29, 2008. Learn how to create scrapbooks which demonstrate an individual, family or a parish’s spiritual journey. Many people begin scrapbooking as a way to record family history. With spiritual scrapbooking, you use the popular craft of making scrapbooks as a spiritual tool to record and explore your faith. You combine illustrations – your photographs – with words – your own or those from other sources such as the Bible, hymns or inspirational writers – to tell your unique faith story. Most of the workshop would be hands-on, participants will be guided in using these materials to create their scrapbooks; additional tools will be demonstrated , such as those used for cropping photos, and participants would be free to use these tools during the workshop. The instructor will also provide a handout highlighting various types of spiritual scrapbooks.To Enroll Sharon Sheridan is author of Pages of Faith: The Art of Spiritual Scrapbooking and an award-winning journalist who copy edits and regularly writes for Episcopal Life. Her articles also have appeared in The Star-Ledger, New Jersey Business magazine, The VOICE and The Pennsylvania Episcopalian. She is the author of Hear the Cry! Standing in Solidarity with the Suffering Church, the recipient of several Polly Bond awards and an avid scrapbooker. The Islamic Jesus and His Blessed Mother with Dr. Lucinda Mosher, Saturday April 26, 2008. Discover the surprising importance of Jesus and Mary to the Muslim faith. What does the Qur’an have to say about Mary and her son Jesus? What have Muslims taught about them over the centuries? What roles do they play in Muslim piety? This workshop will introduce Christians to "Issa and Maryam: Jesus and His Blessed Mother," as Muslims know them. Successful Planned Giving in Parishes, Friday May 2 to Saturday May 3, 2008 with Ms. Terry Parsons and Ms. Davida Isaacson. Learn how to start or improve a Planned Giving program for your parish, regardless of size or composition. To Enroll Terry Parsons was appointed to the Episcopal Church staff as Stewardship Officer in 1996. Her work includes providing training for dioceses and congregations and developing resources for their use. She is also the staff person charged with responsibility for providing national support for dioceses conducting an Alleluia Fund annual offering. She has also been a magazine editor, marketing consultant to small businesses, and director of development for a not-for-profit agency. Davida Isaacson is a Principal and Senior Consultant with Myerberg Shain & Associates. Formerly she served as Executive Director of the Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest, where she raised $12 million in major and planned gifts in 18 months. She is perhaps best known as the former Director of Planned and Major Gifts for WNET/New York where she later served as Director of Endowment and Planned Gifts. She is a nationally recognized lecturer on major gift and planned gift topics and is an adjunct professor at the George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising at New York University. Ms. Isaacson has served as officer, including President, of the Planned Giving Group of Greater New York and on the Board of the National Committee for Planned Giving. Interpersonal Skills & Leadership in Spiritual Direction with Dr. Anne Silver, Monday, May 5 to Tuesday May 6, 2008. Learn and reflect on practices to enhance your work as a spiritual director. This course is designed to enhance skills in working with groups and inidividuals in spiritual direction. Topics include reflective and interpretive relationships; making referrals; and support and supervision. Course content will be geared to interests and needs of the class. Participants are invited to present examples of challenging situations for discussion. Submit your application with payment to James Murphy as shown below. Registration is incomplete without payment in full: We accept MasterCard and Visa and checks or money orders. Checks should be payable to "The General Theological Seminary."
Deadlines for Application: Three weeks prior to class. Some late applications may be considered if space permits.
Fee: The fee for each course is given in the application. (To be updated shortly)
Meals: Lunch is available for $13 per day. Payment for lunches must be made at the time of application.

Continuing Education Credit: CEUs available for every course. Academic credit is not available for continuing education/Lifelong Learning courses.
Cancellations and Refunds: On the above-cited registration deadline, a minimum number of participants must be registered or the course will be cancelled. In that case, fees will be returned in full or, if the applicant wishes, applied to another course. Refunds are not available to participants who cancel.
