Flexible Part-time Master of Arts

The new Master of Arts program at the General Theological Seminary is designed for lay people of all denominations and offers flexible, part-time study in both the late afternoon and evening.

Known for its high quality programs, General has been a leader in the education of persons seeking ordination since its founding in 1817. Specializing in Biblical studies and Biblical languages, liturgics, theology, church history, pastoral and ascetical theology, GTS has provided the church with many of its most outstanding priests, bishops, and-increasingly-lay people.

General's tradition of strong academics and intellectual vigor is matched by its commitment to the life of prayer and worship. The community gathers daily for Morning and Evening Prayer and the Holy Eucharist in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd. This center of campus life is an important part of the process of spiritual formation.

General is situated in a garden-like oasis in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. This beautiful setting, is home to a welcoming community of scholars where an increasing number of part-time students are pursuing theological study to enhance their lay ministries in the church.
