trong>Offered jointly with Candler School of Theology\, Practical Peacebui
lding is a four-day program designed to teach skills and spiritual practic
es for conflict transformation. Conflict is simmering within congregations
and communities\, yet it can be the catalyst for positive change. Led by
 Candler's Luther E. Smith\, Jr.\, Professor of Church and Community\, and
Ellen Ott Marshall\, Associate Professor of Christian Ethics and Conflict
Transformation\, Practical Peacebuilding will teach participants to engage
conflict constructively\, strengthen skills necessary to facilitate a con
flict transformation process\, and identify spiritual practices and resour
ces vital to sustaining this work. The opening keynote address will be giv
en by the Rt. Rev. Mark MqcDonald\, the Anglican Church of Canada's first
National Indigenous Bishop who is deeply involved in the Truth and Reconci
liation Commission addressing the abuses and hardships suffered by student
s of the residential schools for Aboriginal peoples in Canada. A second ke
ynoter will be the Rev. Dr. Bernard Lafayette\, Jr.\, a longtime civil rig
hts activist and leading authority on nonviolent social change.</p>\n<p st
