Leaders for the Church
“The Leaders for the Church campaign offers a unique opportunity to strengthen an institution that is changing as the world is changing, meeting the challenges of today while preparing for those of tomorrow.”Sam Waterston
Honorary Chair
In 2001, GTS embarked on a series of strategic initiatives intended to strengthen the core experience at General, to expand its educational offerings to serve the broader needs of the church, and to ensure that the Seminary will remain a leader in theological education for the new century. Together, these initiatives are known as Leaders for the Church.
With Archbishop Desmond Tutu offering the keynote address at a Gala Celebration on September 13, 2005, GTS launched the public phase of the Leaders for the Church capital campaign. Gifts are now being sought from alumni/ae and friends primarily for two projects:
- The Desmond Tutu Education Center
- The Alumni/ae Chair in Christian Education
By clicking on the icons below you can see the campaign brochure and booklet, which explain these projects in more detail.
As of November 2005, $12.9 million of the comprehensive $15 million goal had been raised. Highlights of the campaign include:
- $4.1 million raised for the Tutu Center and other facilities improvements
- $3.7 million raised for the endowment
- $5.1 million raised for program support and current operations
- Over 50% growth in total giving between 2002 and 2005
- The student campaign with 100% participation and $100,000 in pledges
Our heartfelt thanks go to all those who have already made a gift to Leaders for the Church. For further information or to make a pledge, please contact:
