2011 Distinguished Alumni Award
Minka Shura Sprague
The Rev. Dr. Minka Shura Sprague currently serves as Associate Rector at St. James Episcopal Church, Jackson, Mississippi. A distinguished scholar and author, Dr. Sprague earned her Th.D. from The General Theological Seminary (GTS) in 1985, having received also her M.A. from GTS in 1978. From 1987 to 2003, she was Professor of New Testament and Biblical Languages at the New York Theological Seminary, New York City and also taught at Union Theological Seminary from 1986-1988. At GTS, she served as a lecturer (1984-1985) and as a fellow (1980-1984). A specialist in New Testament studies, Dr. Sprague has several published works, including her latest book, One to Watch, One to Pray, (Church Publishing Corporation), as well as Theological Education among the People, (The Pilgrim Press). Throughout the Episcopal Church and the wider church, Dr. Sprague is widely sought as a preacher, lecturer, and workshop/retreat leader.

Explore the exciting ways the Church is using social media to reach the world in this-workshop lead by two of General's experts in cyber-communications. Part one will deal with what social media are, including the phenomenal influence media like Facebook are having in daily life--and how they are dramatically changing society. Part two of the workshop examines how and why the Church should be involved in social media as it seeks to restore all people to unity with God and one another by making disciples in an ever-changing world. Ample time will also be given to experimenting with social media (in the forms of Twitter and Facebook), to honing skills and to learning new ways of utilizing the media. Join other clergy and lay leaders for this fascinating and informative workshop!

- GTS verifies student is enrolled as a full-time student
- Return to NJ transit
Terms of Use
The student monthly pass is for the personal use of the student who purchased it and is restricted for use traveling to/from stations indicated on the pass for the sole purpose of attending school. Student passes are not honored to or from any other rail station except those printed on the pass, but they may be used on certain buses and light rail vehicles as permitted under NJ TRANSIT cross-honoring policies. NJ TRANSIT reserves the right to review applications for student passes to ensure compliance with NJ TRANSIT policies. Students must present their student identification card upon request by train crew personnel or other NJ TRANSIT representatives.
