CH 145 — MAKING SENSE OF IT: STRATEGIES AND PRACTICES OF BIBLICAL EXEGESIS IN THE EARLY AND MEDIEVAL CHURCH

How to make sense for congregations of texts composed in languages and cultures different from one's own, and of multiple seemingly unrelated texts assigned for a single celebration is a persistent challenge for a preacher. This problem isn't new! This course will explore methods and practices of biblical exegesis in the patristic and medieval period, paying particular attention to sermons.
