Description

CS111 — "DANGEROUS" CHRISTIANS: THE ROLE OF CHURCH LEADERS IN SOCIETY

Christian change agents see what others miss and are not afraid to ask what God would have them do. In a world of sleepwalkers, they are fully awake, fully alert, opting for serious engagement in Christ's name with the spiritual needs and social injustices of their world. Society needs them, but that doesn't mean it wants them.

In this course, following a broad survey of the ways in which the Church historically has approached the surrounding society, we will then consider the lives of a baker's dozen of "dangerous" Christians who have challenged the societal and ecclesiastical status quo. Some are well known and others relatively obscure. Course participants will, through lecture, discussion, film presentations, and interactive exercises, explore the ways in which we can nurture and develop bold, thoughtful Christian leaders in our own mission contexts.
