Description

ST 1 — THINKING ABOUT GOD: INTRODUCTION TO SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY

This course introduces the key doctrines, concepts, themes, and methods of systematic theology in the Anglican tradition. We will explore in detail the doctrines of God, Christ, Creation, Salvation, and the Church. The organizing theme for the course is God's self-giving to the world and our share in God's life through Christ, in the Spirit, which we will discuss in terms of the idea of the "Whole Christ" (totus Christus). Our concern throughout the course will be to highlight the practical importance of theology in pastoral ministry in both local parishes and the general church. We will consider what theological decisions are and how to make them, and discuss what it means for a priest to be a theologian—one who is charged with teaching as well as pastoring and administering the sacraments.

Prof. Davis. 3 credits.
