Made possible because of YOU.

Your gift to GTS today brings ministry to your community tomorrow!

  • Since its Founding in 1817 as the General seminary of the episcopal church, a tradition of personal philanthropy has supported our mission to educate and form leaders for the church in a changing world.

  • Following our recent Affiliation Agreement with Virginia Theological Seminary, General is able to embark on an exciting season of renewal, which will see the expansion of our Hybrid Master of Divinity program and the restoration of Chelsea Square.

  • As we push ahead with these plans, we pray for the continued faith and support we depend on: voluntary gifts from a multitude of brothers & sisters: our alumni/ae, friends, parishes and dioceses that are committed to the life-changing work of rigorous theological education grounded in liturgically comprehensive anglican worship, formation, and service.

Your gift, of any size, contributes to the spiritual and community health of General Seminary, ensuring the future of theological education in NYC on the historic and holy space that is Chelsea Square.

Gifts of Life Insurance

Paid-up life insurance policies provide an excellent opportunity for accomplishing philanthropic objectives. If the circumstances under which a life insurance policy was purchased no longer apply, you may wish to consider putting that money to work for General Seminary.

Gifts to the Endowment

The Endowment establishes the permanence of Faculty chairs, Scholarship aid,and ensures there will always be a General Seminary. Naming opportunities exist to recognize loved ones or other friends of GTS, and donors may wish to consider a multi-year payment period. Minimum contribution levels apply for named funds for restricted use within the endowment.

Leaving a Legacy

A Legacy Gift, also known as Deferred or Planned Giving is an effective way of ensuring General Theological Seminary's future vibrancy. You can make a Legacy Gift to General in a number of tax-beneficial ways. When you make a bequest or contribution of any size in your will, you become a member of The Jacob Sherred Society. All of us who have studied, taught, worked, and worshiped at General Seminary are beneficiaries of the generosity and leadership of Jacob Sherred, a prominent architect and vestry member of the early Trinity Parish in NYC. Upon his death in 1821, his bequest secured General Theological Seminary's future. By including General Seminary in their wills, trusts, or other forms of estate planning, members of the Society that bears his name have joined a powerful legacy of philanthropic support to prepare future leaders of our Church. >> Click here for more information.
